Terragen - The Grand Canyon by CrAzYmOnKeY Terragen - The Grand Canyon by CrAzYmOnKeY
Took a few tries to render, thanks to power outs, and other things.

Terrain is a DEM of the Grand Canyon area.

About 10.5hrs render.

Enjoy.

Im new terragen user too, i have a question : what is DEM ? How to use it ?

a dem is a digital elevation module, which basically means it's a 3d model of some terrain.

you can use a program called 3DEM to manipulate .dem files that you download, and save them as terrain files for use in Terragen.

hope that helps.

I heard Vue 6 is also nice for 3d terrain.

I'm currently playing with TG2 and am a bit bewildered in its chunky confusing layout, but I'm sure it'll improve and i'll learn to use it.

I've seen some really nice Vue images too...haven't played with it myself.

As with any program really, practice makes perfect :P Good luck :)

Mainly true. Now let us dive into the coolness that is GoogleEarth. I've got some awesome fairly high-rez shots from that program. And dont tell me the satilite images are copyrighted because you cant copyright god's green earth. what i like is already knowing where the jungles and caverns are. i dont actually have to render anything, i just wait for the imagry to download and then i carefully position my camera. i admit i do have to then fiddle with adding atmosphere/shadows to the screenshot.

the ultimate program would ask you, "sir what would you like", perhaps using dragon speak's voice recognition technology, or even google's new goog411 speech recognition technology. then the pc would surf the planet for a location matching what you might to see.

i suppose the only issue would be some locations you want dont exist. thus terragen2 will be around for awhile. :)

The colors are great, and I love the water and the transparancy. The texturing is fuzzy enough to give it a slight sandy look too. I really like that little ramp that goes into the river at the bottom of the image.
